While I'm admittedly not the biggest Disney fan, and won't rush to be first in line for new releases like Moana 2 or Inside Out 2, or any of their 2025 movie releases, I am absolutely a connoisseur of pop culture merch, and Fantasia is among my favorite Disney flicks. Even if these sets aren't being purchased as holiday presents, it's still smart to take advantage of the discounts while they last, as well as while the sets themselves are still available, since the number of retailers stocking them is already limited. Truthfully, there are some very wild pieces of Yellowstone merch out there. However, the one that is the wildest to me is the official cologne from Tru Western.

Again, I find it kind of bonkers that there is an official cologne for this show. However, as this final season has rolled out, they have done a bunch of brand partnerships to produce unique and practical items. So, while this is crazy to me, it’s also a solid and useful gift.

Why I Personally Want This Sweet MCU-Centric Book

In 2023, Marvel Studios The Marvel Cinematic Universe An Official Timeline was released. Written by Anthony Breznican, Amy Ratcliffe and Rebecca Theodore-Vachon, the comprehensive book dives deep into the bombastic chain of events that have unfolded during the MCU’s first four phases. So one might learn just when Captain America woke up in the present day ahead of the events of The Avengers. There may also be those who want to know the span of time in between Scarlet Witch’s appearances in WandaVision and Doctor Strange 2.

This sublime piece of text appeals to me for more than a few reasons. One of the obvious factors is that I’m a longtime fan of this continuity and am eager to know every little bit of it. Not only that but, as I alluded to above, it hasn’t always been easy for me to track major events in the MCU. Sure, I’ve watched the Marvel movies in order a number of times, though the events of those films don’t always take place in real time. For example, I was totally thrown off by that flub in 2017’s Spider-Man: Homecoming.

Simply put, I want to grab this timeline guide, activate my Disney+ subscription and stream the Infinity and Multiverse Sagas while reading along in the book. You may be a fan who’s not sold on this book immediately, but believe me when I say you should consider making this purchase.

Some upcoming Marvel movies are going to be quite eventful and have a major impact on the cinematic universe as a whole. The two films that could truly be game changing for the franchise from a narrative standpoint are Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars, which will debut in 2026 and 2027, respectively. Rumors have been swirling around the films, which are being directed by the returning Joe and Anthony Russo. While I'm not altogether happy about any price hikes – who is?! – at least other services are discounting their deals. I've been writing about streaming services for more than 5 years and I've never seen Netflix offer anything but more reasons to abort mission. However, focusing on the positive, you currently have less than 15 hours to get the $2.99 a month Disney Plus and Hulu bundle.

Max's price drop on its With-Ads plan is also ending today. So subscribe for $2.99 a month for the next six months, before it defaults back to $9.99 a month.

Peacock is offering deals on both its monthly and annual plans, though I recommend the latter for the best deal. It works out as $1.66 a month, though you'll pay the $19.99 upfront for the whole year (down from $79.99 annually). Otherwise, it's $1.99 monthly deal is only available on your first six months.

You've got a bit longer to think about subscribing to Paramount Plus' deal. Both plans are down to just $2.99 a month, though only for your first two months – which is a bit stingy of the service, if you ask me. But it ends on December 4, so, like I said, you have time to think it over.

Often considered the ‘original slasher’, Bob Clark’s (the guy that also gifted us A Christmas Story) creepy and claustrophobic holiday horror went on to influence a generation of filmmakers. Structured as a cinematic advent calendar, Deathcember brings together 24 short holiday-themed horror films from directors from across the world. As always with anthology flicks, it’s a mixed bag, but the segments that shine are worth the 145 minute runtime. Look out for All Sales Fatal, the Barbra Crampton starring A Christmas Miracle and stop-motion holiday special throwback Crappy Christmas in particular and there’s even a short from Cannibal Holocaust director Ruggero Deodato. With a diverse range of shorts covering everything from murderous Santas, killer deer, cannibals and ghosts in the form of westerns, silent films, sci-fi and more, it’d be a real Grinch that couldn’t find at least a handful of films to enjoy in this Christmas collection.

Fatman

After starring in one of the earliest alternative Christmas movies, Lethal Weapon, Mel Gibson returns to festive fare with Fatman. With fewer and fewer kids making the ‘nice’ list, Chris Cringle’s business is in trouble. And when a sadistic and spoiled rich kid finds nothing but coal in their stocking, things go from bad to worse for the unorthodox Santa as a hitman (Walton Goggins) is sent his way, out for revenge. Somewhat of a slow burn, when the carnage finally does begin in Fatman, it’s epic, 80s action movie type stuff with Gibson’s grizzled performance a perfect alternate take on Mr Claus.

Die Hard

No alternative Christmas movie list would be complete without the most iconic of them all, and the first (and best) of John McClane’s adventures is an absolute Christmas classic. Put the debate about whether it is or isn’t a festive flick to bed (it is) and enjoy Bruce Willis at his wisecracking best as the NYPD cop trying to save his wife Holly (Bonnie Bedelia), beat the bad guys and get the family back together in time for Christmas using nothing but his wits and his Beretta. Alan Rickman is outstanding as the dastardly Hans Gruber and John McTiernan’s direction is pure 80s adrenaline. Yippee Ki-Yay.

Mixed Nuts

This underrated Steve Martin comedy follows the workers of a crisis hotline in Venice Beach on Christmas Eve as they deal with the threat of eviction, a serial strangler on the loose and a twisted love triangle. Throughout the night, they cross paths with penniless parents to be, a depressed drag artist, a wacky song-writer and more, just trying to make it to Christmas morning. Martin swings effortlessly between the deadpan and the madcap, and a supporting cast of diverse characters keep the film ticking along nicely. Mixed Nuts was Nora Ephron’s follow up to Sleepless in Seattle, and while by no means a classic on that level, is still a must watch for those who prefer the darker side of the holidays.

When I think of Black Friday, my mind instantly goes to the amazing LEGO Black Friday sales we often see – and 2024 proves no different. First things first, you need to choose your VPN. There are a fair few deals out there for Cyber Monday, but I choose Surfshark. It's really affordable at $1.99 a month, and it's got a great track record of being able to unblock streaming services. It also offers reliable security, and it's speedy, as stated in sister site Tom's Guide's Surfshark review.

Or you could also opt for Privado, which was down to $2.99 a month for Cyber Monday, but now is even cheaper with CinemaBlend's exclusive link. That makes it cheaper even than Surfshark at $1.11 a month, and one to consider in your VPN and streaming bundle, though admittedly its unblocking isn't quite as strong.

There are cheaper subscriptions out there where Black Friday VPN deals are concerned, including Privado's $1.48 a month deal, and FastestVPN's Lifetime Plan, which costs you a one-off payment of $23. This works out as a pretty solid rate of as little as... Well, it depends how long you live for, I guess. With that much cash still to spare, we're practically millionaires, bagging tons of great content on-demand for under $5. Especially when you consider 2024's best Hulu Black Friday deals start you off with its With-Ads plan costing just 99 cents a month for 12 months, which I can stretch to with what's left in my budget.

3. Look At Alternative Streaming Savings

There are other ways to get the ultimate Black Friday bundle. You could get one of Paramount Plus' plans for $2.99 a month – but that deal only gets you the discount for your first two months. Max is slightly more generous with its offer, costing the same $2.99 a month rate but for six months. Opt for either and you're almost at your limit of $4.98.

Alternatively...

Look, just because I can't reap the streaming benefits of the Disney Plus bundle discount doesn't mean you should miss out. And coming in just 2 cents under budget, it's a pretty perfect bundle for streaming.

Yes, fine, Ted Lasso is kind of old news at this point. Now we're closing in on the holidays, though, there is something decidedly festive about Ted Lasso that I can't put my finger on that makes it a perfect recommendation for this time of year. And, to be fair, if you're eligible for the free trial, it likely means you haven't had the pleasure of watching one of Apple TV Plus' best originals – that, and The Morning Show. I can't stress enough how warm and joyous this show is, and that you really, really don't need to give a hoot about soccer to appreciate this quick witted, endearing watch. I expected Peacock to deliver where some of the best Black Friday streaming deals are concerned, but its offering for 2024 is arguably even better than last year's saving. However, it is somewhat hiding an even better monthly rate.

Essentially, there is the choice of signing up to either its monthly or annual Premium plan. If you asked me to recommend one thing that would improve any TV, I'd say a soundbar: even the best TVs typically have fairly weedy sound systems, and if you want the full movie soundtrack experience then a good soundbar would be a vast improvement. And a fancy setup like the JBL Bar 9.1 would be even more vast. That's down from $1,199 to $799.99 at Amazon while Samsung's excellent HW-990D is down from $1,997 to $1,049 at Walmart.

Don't need all those channels? Sony's superb HT-S2000 is a 3.1 channel superstar and right now it's down from $499 to $298.

Black Friday streaming device deals

Adding a good streamer doesn't get much cheaper than this: Amazon's Fire TV Stick HD is down from $39.99 to $17.99, which is the same as some new movies cost to rent for one night. The even better Fire TV Stick 4K Max is down from $59.99 to $32.99. I'm not currently seeing any good deals on the Apple TV 4K, which is the streaming device I bought for myself and the one I recommend if you're not on a tight budget, but I'm optimistic that some deals on that will drop in the next couple of days.

Black Friday surround sound deals

I'm not going to list lots of speaker deals because I'd be here forever and you'd fall asleep: there are tons. But if you're into serious surround sound then there are some really nice deals out there on AV receivers.

I love Onkyo amps – I've got one at the heart of my hi-fi setup - and this deal on the TX-SR494 7.2-channel AV receiver is a doozy: it's $150 off at Best Buy, bringing the price down to $299. The 5.2-channel Sony STRD-H590 is $100 off, down to a very reasonable $249.99. And I can attest that the Sony STRDH790, a 7.2 model with Atmos and Dolby Vision, is a good buy at $349; that's the AV receiver I use when it's movie time at home, and mine cost an awful lot more than that when I bought it during lockdown. It's a brilliant buy.

Sadly pickings were slimmer among the computer accessories, but I did manage to find a rather nice red mouse: Logitech's M325s wireless ambidextrous mouse, down $5. Not a huge saving, I know. But that brings the total down to just fifteen bucks.

Could I find a red camera? The Fujifilm Instax on Walmart was close but not close enough in its fetching pink, down $68 to $99, and while I liked its looks I felt that the Insta360 Ace Pro Action Camera at B&H Photo and Video with its red-accented GoPro-esque design was probably a bit of a reach too. Nice price, though: $50 off, bringing it down to just $299.99. But at last I managed to find a properly red one on the same site: the OM System Tough TG-7, down $50 to $499.99.

Time to hit Target with its reassuringly red logo, where straightaway I found red-nosed reindeer women's slippers for $30, a $10 saving. There was tons of other Santa-themed stuff but I felt that would be cheating, so I hit the tech section instead and found the JBL Flip 6 in a nice red colorway for $79.95, a $50 saving.

Target's home section turned out to be something of a Santa's grotto: the first page of home deals included a rather fetching red Staub roasting dish, down from $71 to $49. Is a Grenadine Staub skillet a red one? I'm saying yes. That's down from a frightening $386 to a slightly less frightening $269.99. Staub seems to be a pretty good brand for red things: I found lots of bakeware and cookware in various reddish hues.

What's more fun than a pastry dish? Pretty much everything, if I'm honest. So let's leave those behind and look at the world of sex toys instead. Womanizer's Starlet 2 contact-free massager is down from $79 to $55 and available in a cheerful Cherry Red, while the rose-colored Rose Toy range with its pulsing petals is available in a wide range of models including ones with tongues and other attachments to put in various places. Many of them are available with Black Friday deals of around 10-20% off.

As mentioned, though, anyone who wants to get in on these sweet deals is going to have to act quickly. These deals end tomorrow, Tuesday, May 21. This may seem hasty but other companies have taken similar approaches. For instance, Black Friday 2022 saw Paramount+ go for 50% off and, in 2023, Peacock was offered for $29.99 for a full year. More recently, Max’s annual plans were slashed by 45%. All in all, when it comes to this National Streaming Day deal, interested parties don’t have time to waste.
